"Like the study of science and art, accounts of historical events can be intrinsically fascinating. But they have a wider significance. I believe that people are better able to chart their life course and make life decisions when they know how others have dealt with pressures and dilemmas---historically, contemporaneously, and in works of art. And only equipped with such understanding can we participate knowledgeably in contemporary discussions (and decisions) about the culpability of various individuals and countries in the Second World War. Only with such understanding can we ponder the responsibilty of human beings everywhere to counter current efforts at genocide in Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia to bring the perpetrators to justice."
"...we humans are the kinds of animals who learn chiefly by observing others---what they value, what they spurn, how they conduct themselves from day to day, and especially, what they do when they believe that no one is looking."
----Howard Gardner, from The Disciplined Mind, published in 1999

The Fashion Show; or, A Short Post

Lucy, to Ethel: Why must you act like such a rube?
Ethel to Lucy: Because I am a rube!

I just adore Ethel's attitude.

Dear Pravs, thanks for coming over for a visit---it's good to see you again!---your kind words make my day.
I cook Indian food every chance I get :)
When I went to vegetarian diet, I looked to the kitchens of India: I thought that these would be the kitchens with thousands of years of history with cooking and eating vegetarian.
So at my home, I always cook US-style for my family, and will usually set aside Sundays as my cook-for-me-for-the-week days.
(last week, a certain lovely tomato pachadi was one of the dishes...tasty, thank you so much!...tomorrow, hopefully some payasam! ;)

Payasams are sweet dishes, semi liquid..they are called payasam in southern part of india. Kheer in northern parts of india. So are you familiar with the spices and other indian ingredients ? You are right, you will get umpteen vegetarian recipes from indian kitchens. I hope you will try more of my recipes and like them too :D
